Tell Me Your Challenges

Don’t tell me your successes;
Tell me your challenges.

Don’t tell me your happiness;
Tell me the sorrows that have laid you low and how you rose back to joy.

Don’t tell me how fast you are;
Tell me how high and steep you have climbed.

Don’t tell me your grand plans for the future;
Tell me how you make the world a better place.

Don’t tell me your lofty degrees from top schools;
Tell me about the children you have taught to hope and to embrace lifelong learning.

Don’t tell me your accomplishments;
Tell me of those to whom you have given a hand up.

Don’t tell me your health;
Tell me how you have battled disease in yourself and others.

Don’t tell me your wealth;
Tell me of those you have lifted from the despair of poverty and hunger.

Don’t tell me your legacy and all that you will leave behind when you die;
Tell me what you are doing right now to address injustice.

Tell me your challenges.
